Geger Film Fitna

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Tentang Bernard Lewis (lagi)

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Namun, walaupun sering disebut sbg pakar, beberapa artikelnya sering mengundang tanda tanya. Contohnya:

The Muslim willingness to submit to Soviet authority, though widespread, was not unanimous. The Afghan people, who had successfully defied the British Empire in its prime, found a way to resist the Soviet invaders. An organization known as the Taliban (literally, “the students”) began to organize resistance and even guerilla warfare against the Soviet occupiers and their puppets. For this, they were able to attract some support from the Muslim world–some grants of money, and growing numbers of volunteers to fight in the Holy War against the infidel conqueror. Notable among these was a group led by a Saudi of Yemeni origin called Osama bin Laden.

Taliban baru muncul tahun 90-an setelah Sovyet keluar dari Afghanistan.

What is the significance of Aug. 22? This year, Aug. 22 corresponds, in the Islamic calendar, to the 27th day of the month of Rajab of the year 1427. This, by tradition, is the night when many Muslims commemorate the night flight of the prophet Muhammad on the winged horse Buraq, first to “the farthest mosque,” usually identified with Jerusalem, and then to heaven and back (cf Koran XVII.1). This might well be deemed an appropriate date for the apocalyptic ending of Israel and if necessary of the world. It is far from certain that Mr. Ahmadinejad plans any such cataclysmic events precisely for Aug. 22. But it would be wise to bear the possibility in mind.

Looking at the Middle East, Four Decades after the Six-Day War

Forty years after the Six-Day War, Israel continues to face problems on its borders, from shootouts in Gaza to fighting in Lebanon. Indeed, the Israeli triumph of 1967 has proven to be a false victory.

As a result of their higher birth rate, the Palestinians have almost made up the difference today. While the number of Jews in Israel has more than doubled, four times as many Palestinians live there today than 40 years ago. Today there are 5 million Arabs and 5.3 million Jews living on Israeli territory.

“The Arabs will be the majority in a few years,” says Arieli. In Israel’s core, there are five Jews to every Arab. If this ratio were expanded to the territories captured in 1967, he says, 16 million Jews would have to emigrate to Israel. “There aren’t that many Jews in the entire world,” says Arieli.

Call that humiliation?

What’s more, it is clear that the Iranians are not giving their British prisoners any decent physical exercise. The US military make sure that their Iraqi captives enjoy PT. This takes the form of exciting “stress positions”, which the captives are expected to hold for hours on end so as to improve their stomach and calf muscles. A common exercise is where they are made to stand on the balls of their feet and then squat so that their thighs are parallel to the ground. This creates intense pain and, finally, muscle failure. It’s all good healthy fun and has the bonus that the captives will confess to anything to get out of it.

And this brings me to my final point. It is clear from her TV appearance that servicewoman Turney has been put under pressure. The newspapers have persuaded behavioural psychologists to examine the footage and they all conclude that she is “unhappy and stressed”.

What is so appalling is the underhand way in which the Iranians have got her “unhappy and stressed”. She shows no signs of electrocution or burn marks and there are no signs of beating on her face. This is unacceptable. If captives are to be put under duress, such as by forcing them into compromising sexual positions, or having electric shocks to their genitals, they should be photographed, as they were in Abu Ghraib. The photographs should then be circulated around the civilised world so that everyone can see exactly what has been going on.

Michael Ledeen (lagi)

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Said menuduh pemikiran-pemikiran Lewis terlalu bias dan ditujukan utk membantu ekspansi wilayah Israel.
